Complete count of Nepalese origin people residing in State of Georgia
Having a complete or near to complete count of all Nepalese origin people (NOP) residing in the State of Georgia has been discussed since last few years, but due to various factors, no headway could be made in that direction. The current executive board of Nepalese Association of Georgia (NAG) in active collaboration with other Nepalese organizations (NRNA, GA chapter; NCC; MAA, Georgia chapter; INLS, Georgia chapter) has taken the initiative to carry out the complete count of all NOP residing in the State of Georgia and hope to get this project completed by December 31, 2023. Why is having a complete count of NOP important, one may ask? Having a complete count of NOP would provide us with various sociopolitical and practical benefits (such as being able to negotiate with city, county, state, and federal agencies for grants based on the strength of our numbers and knowing the distribution of NOP throughout the state of Georgia would allow for better coordination and faster response from the community at large during time of crisis/need of any individual community member, just to name a few).
How do we plan to go about achieving this objective?
- Decide on what sociodemographic information are we going to collect (for example – age, gender, total household size, number of children aged 18 years and under, number of adults aged 18 years and over, city, zip code, poverty level/income level, US citizenship status, occupation, health insurance status, educational status, employment status, etc.) and create a comprehensive questionnaire to collect the required information
- Mode of data collection (for example – web form, in-person/phone interview)
- Identify/search for volunteers across the state of Georgia (either by city or other geographic delineation) to help for data collection via the questionnaire
- Store data collected in a centralized repository for further data management and processing
- Analyze the collected data and present findings
